The 6th President of the Republic of Kenya H.E Okoiti Andrew Omtatah.

On Saturday, Senator Okiya Omtatah declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 elections. To prepare for his candidacy, Omtatah formed a 10-member committee tasked with assessing the feasibility of his campaign.

Omtatah revealed that the committee's primary goal is to engage the public, identify the nation's key challenges, and explore innovative solutions. "This committee will play a crucial role in evaluating the viability of my candidacy. It will focus on gathering public input and crafting strategies to address pressing national issues," he stated.

Shortly after Omtatah’s announcement, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei weighed in, emphasizing the significant demands of a presidential campaign. Writing on social media platform X, Cherargei noted, "To run a successful presidential campaign, you will need a minimum of Ksh 7 billion."

He also pointed out that a strong grassroots network and a solid voter base are essential for any candidate. However, he observed that Omtatah's limited social media presence could be a disadvantage.

Cherargei further underscored the stiff competition Omtatah would face, particularly from President William Ruto, who triumphed over Raila Odinga in the highly competitive 2022 elections.

Omtatah’s announcement has sparked discussions, with his committee expected to strategize and engage with stakeholders ahead of the polls.
