President William Ruto has happily accepted the nickname “Kasongo,” which has been trending on social media. Speaking at the funeral of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother in Bungoma County, the President joked about the name and the popular song behind it.
The nickname comes from a Rhumba song by Super Orchestra Mazembe about a woman asking her husband, Kasongo, to return to their marriage. Kenyans have linked the name to President Ruto, using it humorously online.
President Ruto said he likes the name and even danced to the song during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Kisii County. He also talked about the nickname “Zakayo,” comparing it to the Biblical Zacchaeus, a man visited by Jesus. He encouraged people to learn from Zacchaeus and allow positive change in their lives.
The President’s lighthearted response to these nicknames has made him more relatable to the public, showing his sense of humor and connection with Kenyans.
